JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Job Purpose: 

1. To provide direct links with local schools, businesses, local authorities and networks to develop, motivate and inspire acceptance for all LGBT+ people and stamp out homophobia.

2. To lead and provide first class support services to those affected by LGBT+ issues and challenges.

3. Deliver value for money ensuring continued support and funding.  

 

Main Duties and Tasks: 

1. To provide direct links with local schools,businesses, local authorities and networks to develop, motivate and inspire acceptance for all LGBT+ people and stamp out homophobia.

1.1 Develop links with local schools, businesses, local authorities and networks

  • Build working relationships with local schools, businesses, local authorities and networks.
  • Deliver training, support, advice and guidance to our partner schools and organisations sessions to schools and on diversity and inclusion
  • Work with other LGBT+ charities to implement initiatives using relationships already built
  • Engage in training sessions with local schools and businesses where appropriate
  • Effectively liaise with Education, Business, Networking and Youth champions to deliver a message of acceptance
  • Escalate homophobic abuse/complaints and ensure successful resolution
  • To develop and maintain an environment in favour of LGBT+ acceptance

1.2 Motivate and Inspire acceptance

  • Identify appropriate methods of motivating and inspiring people to accept LGBT+ persons
  • Work with our partner organisations to deliver promotional materials to promote equality
  • Hold regular inclusive activities to promote acceptance and inclusion of all

1.3 Stamp out homophobia

  • Work with those effected by LGBT+ issues to deliver a message of hope
  • Log and record homophobia, and report effectively to relevant authorities.

 

2. To Lead and Provide first class support services to those affected by LGBT+ issues and challenges. 

  • Lead a team of volunteers and staff to deliver support and community projects and resources
  • Identify, analyse and develop understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people, plan and deliver programmes related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, relationships and bullying
  • Create and drive arts-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education and sporting activities
  • Befriend and support individuals in various safe settings
  • Mentor and support individuals to encourage social inclusion
  • Undertake administrative tasks, verifying information and responding to queries  
  • Meet, liaise and network with police, educational establishments, social services, job agencies, youth offending teams and other agencies to address issues and promote opportunities for young people
  • Work with parents and community groups to win support for improved provision and acting as an advocate for young people’s interests  

 

3. Deliver value for money ensuring continued support and funding. 

  • To deliver value for money to all investments made by the charity and its partners.
  • Identify and pursue sources of funding for projects to improve services and/or resources for LGBT+ people. 
  • Draw up business plans, write reports and make formal presentations to funding bodies to ensure continued funding and compliance.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of issues facing LGBT people (with specific focus on LGBT Youths and Trans individuals)
  • Relevant knowledge of administration practises

Experience:

  • Interest in Youth Services
  • Social Work experience (Desired)
  • Worked with other LGBT charities (Desired)

Qualifications:

  • 5 x GCSEs (A-C grades)
  • DBS Cleared
